Best Bass Fishing Lures Of All Time - Part 2 Bass fishing lures come and go but there are a few that have stood the test of time that would surely make the list of Top Ten Bass Fishing Lures Of All Time. Another such lure is the Big O crankbait, handcarved from balsa wood by Fred Young in beginning in 1967 - and named the "Big O" after his brother Otis. When Fred Young sold hand-carved Big O crankbaits at the Tennessee Invitational on Watts Bar in 1972 for $15 apiece, it spawned the "alphabet plug" revolution and was responsible for a number of major bass tournament victories. Of course, the ones that were carved by Fred Young have become collector's items and are very hard to find. The good news, however, is that reproductions are available that are virtually identical to the Big O's that Fred Young created over 40 years ago. Hand-crafted, hand-tuned, and hand-painted in brand new / perfect condition in factory sealed packaging. No two baits are identical and each lure has its own unique action, due to the characteristics of the balsa wood. Favorite colors include Parrot . Sunrise Craw . Ghost Shad . Smokey Joe . Bloodline Shad . Chartreuse / Black . Rootbeer Float . Oxbow Bream Could the Original Fred Young Big O be the best shallow to mid-depth crankbait ever made? Try it and see - the easy-casting shape and pumping action make it a killer for virtually all gamefish. |
